The acceptance levels of engineers as first responders throughout disasters have been steadily growing among emergency managers and operators. For this reason, SAME carried over last year’s Executive Forum topic of Joint Engineer Contingency Operations in OCONUS to its role in resilience, emergency response, and security in CONUS. Karen Durham-Aguilera, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, lead a panel of experts consisting of senior corporate officials from architectural, engineering, and manufacturing companies as well as federal and regional government officials representing, USACE, NAVFAC, Air National Guard, USNORTHCOM, USCG, FEMA, and the U.S. Department of Transportation. The objective of the session discussion was to learn about active and planned JECO activities in the public sector, how the private sector is augmenting the Services and emergency management agencies; identify ways for SAME and TISP to assist in the advancement of the JECO principles in order to improve emergency response and security and make our infrastructure more resilient.
